Fagus sylvatica 'Atropurpurea Group'

Very large and showy, round-headed tree with age. Purple foliage best in spring and again in fall. Small green flowers are followed by bristly 3-sided brown fruits. Retain their dried, coppery leaves through the winter and drop them when the new leaves appear. Bark is smooth and gray.
