About Us

Oriental Gardens opened 25 years ago out of a great love of Japanese style gardens and the plants associated with them. In November 2023, Rob Koschnick took ownership, with a passion to revitalize the nursery and nurture connections with customers both new and returning.

Rob holds degrees in Building Trades Building Construction and Horticulture Design and Install; both from Alfred State College. His 20 plus years of landscaping experience have exposed him to numerous designs, site characteristics, maintenance requirements, and overall needs of both the homeowner and the plants.

Oriental Gardens uniqueness not only lies in the material offered, but also the fact that it is a well established nursery with loyal customers while simultaneously having the feel of a new company with fresh ideas. As a small, locally owned nursery we aim to provide a custom shopping experience that larger garden centers cannot offer.

What we offer:

  • Over 500 Asian maple cultivars
  • More than 1,200 conifers, including specimens suitable for bonsai
  • 1,000 plus woody ornamentals
  • Unique ferns, grasses, bamboos, and perennials
  • Natural stone garden accessories
  • Custom plant orders

We have continued to evolve into a dedicated group of garden enthusiasts who will drop just about everything to talk about, examine, acquire, propagate, or otherwise be involved with really worthwhile plants.  What thrills our souls is the variety of nature’s bounty, a plant grown well, and garden features that we would want in our own gardens.

Looking for designs?

Our primary business is growing and selling plants and we do not have a designer on staff at the current time. We can, however, offer suggestions. It is very helpful if you bring or send pictures and have an idea of what you would like to accomplish. Details like amount of sunlight, type of soil (e.g., loamy or clay), site drainage (is it dry or moist), and possible wind issues all help in narrowing down options.

Please do note that we are a small business with a small staff and will not have the time to dedicate to designing your landscape!
